Support fees

Google Cloud Support Fee

Standard, Enhanced, and Premium support are billed as a percentage of your monthly spend rather than as a flat fee. That has a useful consequence: every dollar of waste you remove also removes its share of support cost, so real savings are slightly larger than the line item suggests.

Billed: A tiered percentage of monthly Google Cloud spend, with a minimum monthly charge. The percentage falls as spend rises.

SupportOn-demand

What triggers this charge

  • Total monthly Google Cloud consumption, across all services.
  • Support tier, which sets the percentage and the minimum.
  • A minimum monthly charge that applies even at low spend.

How to reduce it

Right-size the tier to how you actually use it

Premium buys a technical account manager and the fastest response targets. Organisations that have never opened a P1 are often paying for a service model they do not use.

Remember it multiplies your other savings

Cutting $100k of waste also cuts the support percentage on that $100k. Include it when you calculate the return on an optimisation programme.

Exclude it from team showback

Support is an untaggable, account-level charge. Allocating it by usage share is defensible; leaving it unallocated distorts every team's numbers.

Rates

Rates for this SKU group are not shown yet — the catalog sync has not run. We publish rates from Google’s Cloud Billing Catalog API or not at all; a hand-typed rate that looks authoritative and is six months stale is worse than no rate. In the meantime, cloud.google.com/skus has the current list price.

Now find out how much of this you are actually paying.

Finitizer breaks your Google Cloud bill down to the SKU, shows how each one has moved since last week, and separates rate changes from usage changes — so you know whether to talk to engineering or to procurement.
