What we measure
These tools are free and need no account, so the only way to know whether they are useful is to measure how they get used. This page says exactly what that means, because a vague privacy promise is worth less than a specific one.
Your files are parsed in your browser and never sent
Several tools here ask you to drop in a cloud billing export: an AWS CUR, a Google Cloud billing export, a FOCUS file, a BigQuery job history. Those files are read and analysed by JavaScript running on your own machine. They are not uploaded, and no value read out of them is transmitted anywhere. This is a property of how the tools are built, not a policy we apply to data we receive, because we do not receive it.
What is recorded

What is never recorded
- The contents of any file you load. It never leaves your browser.
- Any value parsed out of a file, including totals, service names and dates.
- Account, project, subscription or resource identifiers.
- Your IP address. It is used to derive an anonymous key and is never stored.
- The inputs to any tool that reads your own data, as opposed to a calculator.
- Cookies, local storage, device fingerprints, or any cross-site identifier.
- Your name, email, employer, or anything else that identifies you.
No cookies, and no way to follow you
This site sets no cookies and writes nothing to your device. To tell one visit apart from another without doing either, the collector derives a key by hashing your IP address and browser version together with a random value that is thrown away and regenerated every 24 hours.
The consequence is deliberate: the key cannot be linked to yesterday’s data even by us, because the value used to make yesterday’s key no longer exists. Returning tomorrow, you count as a new visitor. Several colleagues behind one office connection count as one. That undercounts, which is the right direction for a number like this to be wrong in.
If your browser sends a Do Not Track header, nothing is recorded at all.
Where it goes and how long it stays
Into our own BigQuery, in our own Google Cloud project. It is not shared with, sold to, or processed by any advertising network or third-party analytics provider. There is no Google Analytics on this site, no tag manager, and no advertising pixel of any kind.
